When you buy a fan with a light you are buying a fan with a light. The light is for additional lighting, not primary lighting,if you attach it to the ceiling without leveling the unit or attach the wiring to a dimmer you will get noise. This is not completly silent but the noise is not noticeable that it would disrupt your daily life. The light is dim and the fan itself is good,if the light is too dim for you, you can't change the bulbs to more wattage because is not recommended by the manufacture. The included 40 watt bulbs really are much to dim, so make note of that before purchasing.

It has substantial weight and the glass glows a soft golden light. Using soft white 100w bulbs with a dimmer rather than the 60w ones supplied could be a better idea. This is very high quality light,easy to assemble and install.
